I remember when I was a little girl, I had a book. It was a massive book, in my tiny hands, and full of horse pictures. Everything about them, how to care for them, feed them, brush them, and, best of all, how to ride them! As I flipped through the pages, I would daydream about what it would be like riding a galloping horse with the wind in my hair...
While I never learned to ride, I consider myself blessed to have worked within galleries and museums for over a decade and have spent many hours appreciating beautiful artwork and reading fascinating stories. In 2021 I finally found my way to pursuing my creative passion through a camera lens.
Through various creative collaborations, I eventually met Lizzie, who ran 'Pony at my Party.' We organized some photos for children and adults with horses, and I was delighted to see how excited they were to meet and interact with the horses. Shortly afterward, I attended a social horse riding day at Beachmere and discovered a community of like-minded people that loved horses and supported and uplifted each other.
I was quickly amazed by how many people own and ride horses in the Moreton Bay Region. Young to old, learning and experienced, men and women, everyone was willing to share their knowledge and skills and help each other. It was like living in the pages of that childhood book!
I am excited to say that I am now on a journey to collect a visual narrative of the stories of the Moreton Bay equestrian community. And, hopefully, one day, another little girl will be looking at the photos and stories I capture and dreaming of galloping with the wind in her hair...
